I wonder when we'll see WW1 / WW2 style fighter drones shooting down drones. I'm envisioning a fixed wing drone with decent speed (such as that of a WW2 fighter) that uses machine guns that fire regular rounds instead of 35mm rounds. Since the kamakazi drones don't fight back they'd make for easy pickings. I bet the cost of an intercept could be much cheaper while also having a much larger range. If the enemy were to use more advanced drones that fight back / evade them then it'd make their kamakazi drones more expensive.

The issue is that Russians lately started to use their shaheeds to cruise on higher altitudes and dive to the target. It makes these types of very close range systems less effective when it comes to engaging them during their cruise. Now Ukrainians need more of these to place them right at the sites that they are defending rather than blocking the cruising paths of the shaheeds.

That capability has never been in question, as Skynex is pretty good (within its limited range), so when defending a stationary target, it can do quite something.

Still evenwithin its limited range, it can only do so much. Drones are by definition a low cost/low ressource weapon, and loosing some munition sin a saturation attack is ... quite the point. The Geran's possibly used here have a minimum price tag of 20k - probably less in larger/streamlined production of today, and maybe even without warheads (not that this would make much of a dent).

So the expended munition in this scenario enabled the more heavy loads of cruise missiles to pass air defenses, and Skynex 'scored' here in killing decoys.

I mean for some close range mobile unit defense it still is an acceptable unit, but also sufferns from smaller drones in number still being capable of saturating it. So like most german tech it's fancy, but very niche in a larger conflict.

So ... take everything with a grain of salt, i like to say. Technology is fun, war isen't, and biased perspectives is the ugliest of their lovechilds, making both drink &amp; smoke too much and ruin their relationship.

A few months ago, however, the Shaheds started flying at an altitude of 5 kilometers.
